Let’s talk about vitamin C brightening serums

If you’re looking to turn your dull skin more radiant and bright, while helping fade dark spots, these kinds of serums are probably for you. There are many on the market that claim to have great, wonder-working properties for your skin, but they can vary tremendously by price point.

We’ll start with The Ordinary – Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% At about $13, this serum claims to brightening the skin tone and reduce signs of aging. It comes in a dropper style bottle that is UV protected and a few drops can be used twice a day. It is alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, gluten-free, vegan, and cruelty-free.

The TATCHA – Violet-C Brightening Serum 20% Vitamin C + 10% AHA is a whopping $88 and claims to soften, smooth, and brighten skin for a more even skin tone. This serum contains 20% Vitamin C, 10% AHAs, Japanese Beautyberry, and Japanese Angelic Root. It comes in a pump style bottle and 1-2 pumps can be used in the evening. It is oil-free, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free.

Now that you know the specifics, let’s get into the biggest difference: PRICE! There is a $75 price difference between the two products which is insane. The ultimate question then becomes; does the price make a difference in the product?

In my humble opinion, both are beautiful products that do the jobs that they claim. I love the TATCHA one and reach for it when I am having an especially bad skin day, but once the bottle is done, I will not be repurchasing simply because it is way too expensive for me. I will go back to my Ordinary one. It does the job perfectly.

Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for luxury, go for TATCHA. But remember they both do essentially the same thing. The Ordinary gives your skin what it needs without breaking the bank.
